Institution of the Lord’s Passover

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD's Passover. Exodus 12:11 --- The Egyptians were urgent with the people to send them out of the land in haste. For they said, “We shall all be dead.” Exodus 12:33

Observation

What was about to take place according to God’s instruction to Moses an Aaron was catastrophic! The commands were passed along to the men, their families that God was about to judge Egypt, killing the firstborn children of every household. Israel’s firstborn would be included if they didn’t follow the commands given. The Lord’s Passover was instituted. God instructed HIs people to sacrifice a lamb and put it’s blood on the doorposts of their homes to escape the angel of death who was to passover, killing the firstborn of every home.

Jesus’ life was sacrificed, as He became the Passover Lamb of God, who’s blood was placed on the doorposts of our hearts (so to speak). Eternal death will never take our lives because we have passed from death to life. We escaped eternal damnation and judgement - spiritually speaking, because the Lamb of God was slain for my sins.

And in Ex. 12:11, God readies the Israelites to travel. The escape plan will come through judgement as they are instructed to not waste any time preparing and eating the passover lamb. The contrasting urgency of the Egyptians was to send them out...quickly!

Application

My application is simple - in the form of questions:

~ Am I ready with an urgency to live for God?
~ Am I equipped with the whole armor of God, the belt of truth, my foot readied with the gospel of peace, and sword and staff in hand?
~ AM I quick to EAT THE BREAD OF LIFE, as I’ve received the Passover LAMB OF GOD?
~ WIll I dine, commune with Jesus - because He has become my source of Life?

Prayer

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for becoming and being the Lamb of God for me, that I may receive life! Thank you for being my Passover Lamb, so death passes over me and life in me exists! Thank you for giving me wisdom to surrender with a willing and YES heart - to live fully clothed, prepared to live in obedience to You! Thank You for giving me desires to live a yielded life to commune with You - and THANK YOU FOR PURSUING COMMUNION WITH ME! I LOVE YOU MEGA CHOKE KA-ZILLION PLENTI!
