A Pencil In God's Hand

Richard Waialeale

Scripture
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV) 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
Observation
My call to ministry, like Apollos and Paul’s call to ministry, is given to us by Christ. I am the means and not the cause, therefore God alone produced the results - not me, but God. God makes people grow, therefore He gets all the credit.
Mother Teresa said it best, “God wants to show His greatness by using my nothingness. I don’t claim anything of the work. It’s His work and I am like a little pencil in His Hand. He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it. The pencil has only to be allowed to be used.”
Application
The lesson for me is to be an encourager and complement those that are planting seeds for God to grow. I am responsible to God, working in His field, working for Him. I’m simply the pencil in His hand. I must allow God to write, not me. In the end it’s not my ability that counts, but my availability.
Prayer
Lord I make myself available to You to use me as You need to. I pray that You trust me better then I can trust myself. Help me Lord I pray to trust You and let go of myself. Thank you for Lord for loving me. Amen.
