Forging Through The Fire

John Tilton

Scripture

1 Peter 4:12-13

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on youto test you, as though something strange were happening to you.13But rejoiceinasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

Observation

Peter warned the various churches in Asia Minor to be aware as believers that trials and ordeals would come their way as a test to them; and given the time in history, probably be a surprise to them as to what was besieging or confronting them. However, Peter simply states a truth that may have been new to them for that time, that suffering for Christ was a test for their faith, and that they should anticipate the joy of seeing the truths, victories and glory of Christ would be revealed and unveiled.

Application

One of my characteristics is being a worry wart. Thus, when Trials and tribulations come my way, I do indeed become concerned and find myself frequently dwelling on the potential pitfalls and outcomes of the challenge at hand. Fortunately, I’ve not been the type to let the situation paralyze me, but rather figuring out how to address and resolve the situation. These scriptures give me an added sense of peace and perspective that it is all a part of God’s plan for me to sometimes face the fire. I praise the Lord for the miracles and victories I’ve seen in recent times of His faith and hand of favor and love upon my family and our church, giving me an added sense and peace with hope in that ALL things is for His will and glory, even if what I am hoping for does not materialize, or even if I have to walk through and fiery ordeal.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I do believe that the testing of my faith is your will and plan, and that I need to press in and stand on your truth of your master plan, for with you, I know that I will be able to cope and comply, even when forging through the fire.
