In the midst of busyness

Ken Silva

Scripture

1 Kings 4: 22Solomon’s daily provisions were thirty cors[a] of the finest flour and sixty cors[b] of meal, 23ten head of stall-fed cattle, twenty of pasture-fed cattle and a hundred sheep and goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks and choice fowl. 24For he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, and had peace on all sides. 25During Solomon’s lifetime Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, lived in safety, everyone under their own vine and under their own fig tree.

Observation

Solomon was King over all of Israel. All the tribes and people within the described geographic region. He served as the King, making the decisions necessary to run this huge area and everyone that resided within it. He was blessed by the Lord and ruled with “Godly wisdom”. The task of ruling is difficult but the scripture that I chose focuses on the daily provision needed just to run Solomon’s household. He needed Godly wisdom just to organize the affairs of the kingdom and to provide for the daily sustenance of everyone from the royal household to the workers in the field.

Application

As I read these passages of scripture I think about the daunting task NHO has ahead. We need to relocate our warehouse with the many years of accumulation, materials, equipment, containers, furniture and a bunch of junk. We need to build a new structure on half of our existing site while still maintaining the many activities, 5 services, and administrative functions of NHO. We need to maintain our servant’s heart to love on our people so that “in the midst of busyness” they are filled with God’s presence and God’s love. It is only by pressing close to the Lord, by listening to the still small voice that we will be able to successfully complete the project. I pray for God’s presence and provision. The task is daunting but our God is a deliverer. I am amazed everyday for the blessings he has bestowed upon the Church and I am anxious for the victories yet to come.

Prayer

Dear Lord we come to you with a humble heart in awe of the many blessings you have bestowed upon all of us. We believe in advance for the many victories you will seliver for us in the upcomg very busy season. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you, never straying to the left or to the right. Pressing close when we're in doubt and always listening for your still small voice. Amen.
