My Time In “Not” My Own

Carl Higashi

Scripture

John 7:6-8

6So Jesus *said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune. 7The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil. 8Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.”

Observation

Jesus speaking to his brothers who have not believed in Him at that time says that His time to be revealed to the world has not come. But to his unbelieving brothers, they can show their true self to the people of the world anytime. Jesus was aware of the proper timing of things. When they were to be done, where, who, etc.

He goes on to challenge them as to their faith in Him as the Christ, their Savior. He confronts them with being like the world and therefore the world cannot hate them. Then contrasts them with Himself and that the world hates Him, because he testifies that the ways of the world are evil.

He then tells His brothers (disciples) to go to the feast yourself. Jesus chooses not to accompany his brothers to the feast. Jesus stays back, it is not the right timing for Him to be revealed.

Application

Remember that every minute of my life it time that is precious, and had its own God given purpose for it. I can choose to redeem my time for the glory of God or choose to utilize it for worldly use and myself.

My time is not my own. I need to utilize it to the glory of God knowing that at times, because He was persecuted, there will be the proper times for that to happen to me. There is work yet to do my time is not my own.

People will be saved at my inconvenience and sacrifice. As a servant of God, do not covet to be masters of my own time. Allow the Spirit to lead me in my planning and the directing of my step at all times. Never neglecting my primary responsibilities as a Man of God, husband, father, son, and priest.

Prayer

Lord You gave your time, but even more so you entire life for me. My time and life here on earth I know is not my own. I am a man under the command of my Master. Lord may you have full direction over my life that my will be yours. To you my life is given for your glory and honor alone. Love you Lord. IJNIP. Amen!
