Filter It All

John Tilton

Scripture

1 Peter 2:1-3

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Observation

The aforementioned traits are not character traits that we are born with, but rather traits that come from external influences in the world. It is so true that babies come into the world free from all of the external influences of the world. Like a baby craves its mom’s milk as pure food, so to shall we crave the food from the Lord through His Word, as the scripture encourages us to do so. It is through the pure food from the Lord through His word and prayer time with Him that we will know and receive the good that will in turn form and mold our character, that malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander not set in and take hold of our heart and character.

Application

I am blessed by the continuous reminders I receive through my devotions that set me back on the Lord’s course continuously and encourage me to filter the many things of the world that come my way each day. A filter is a preventative step that precedes a potential battle in the mind when letting things of the world pass through or not being filtered at all. Our filter comes from the principles and precepts of God’s Word that become our warning sensors. It’s a mindset of being prepared to seek the pure milk of the Lord over the tainted influences of the world that we are bombarded with daily. It’s keeping the savory taste of the Lord’s food on our palate.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank you for you daily reminders through your Word that speak to me, prompt me, remind me and convict me as needed. May I be reminded each day to seek your spiritual food, that I will have my filters in place to filter out that of the world that conflicts with your will and way.
