Wide Mouth, Dumbo Ears

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Psalm 81:10I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. 11“But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. 12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.

Observation

God’s heart for His people, including references to the days of Moses - leading His children out of Egypt, was freedom. One of the on-going struggles for Israel was idolatry. This came in different forms, in different seasons - but the bottom line to me was their hearts turning away from their God.
The Lord miraculously filled the hungry, open mouths and appetites of His people in the wilderness.

The lack of submission, not listening, stubborn hearts, the tendency to sin and follow their own devices (which meant “I’m going to do own my thing, my own way”) was a constant battle.
Lesson for my heart and life…says the Spirit of God

Application

For the Spirit of God would say to my heart...

“Humble yourself, open your mouth to receive My food, word, wisdom - NOT TO talk, talk, talk…ask, ask, ask…as if I don’t hear Your heart and prayers. Listen carefully, submit reverently - while being aware of your ‘inner hearts devices.’

You know you like doing things your way, your time…! Be careful of your inner stubbornness Rod. I love you and will be gracious to you. I’m pleased with your heart to be vulnerable, worshipful and adhere to knowing Me, through My Word.”

Prayer

OH MY GOD…THANK YOU! Please fulfill Your word and will in my life. For my life is not my own, yet You know I wrestle with my “inner devices.” So Lord - help me to have a wide mouth and Dumbo ears :) You are sooooooooooooooooooo Awesome!
