Adoration, not Abandonment

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this disaster on them.’” 1 Kings 9:9

Observation

God warns Solomon, instructing him what to do and not to do. The Lord’s warnings are real, serious and vital for good relationship with God and others. God is warning Solomon that if he forsakes the ways and rules of God, his temple will be brought to ruin.

  • The temptations the Israelites encountered involved serving and worshiping “other gods.” The temple was new, and God communicated the consequences of disobedience and idol worship.

Application

The battle is real in my life and others I talk with. It’s way to easy to take my eyes off of Jesus and living for His eternal purposes, and being greedy to live for the pleasures and riches of this world. There are undoubtedly consequences for my life if I shift form God worship to Rod worship.

  • Rod worship lives to please myself and man. God worship could give a rip about pleasing none other than God alone. God is calling me to adore God and not abandon Him!
Prayer

Whew!!! God - thank You for never leaving or abandoning me. Sometimes I feel like my prayers are being heard or answered but I know Yo hare faithful. Forgive me for my unbelief and lack of commitment to Your ways. Help me to listen, learn, love and live for You - that I may adore You and never abandon You!
