One Thing I Ask

Aaron Cordeiro

Scripture

"One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock." (Psalm 27:4-5)

Observation

One thing the psalmists asks and seeks is simply to be in the house of God. In other words being in the presence of God to meditate or inquire, to be hidden in times of trouble, and lifted up and placed on solid ground. All this happens in the presence of God at the same time the opposite happens outside the presence of God.

The tone of King Davids Psalm is of fearless trust in God. There is such a strong emphasis on being in the presence of God as if he's experience the contrast himself of drifting from Gods presence.

Application

Some symptoms of drift might be the beautiful things of God have lost its luster and meditating on other things to fill Gods place. Another symptom might be trouble constantly finding you, like you are sticking out like a sore thumb for trouble to find. In another verse the Psamist says I hide myself in thee. THere is a discipline and action of one hiding oneself in God. Another symptom of drift might be forcing things or trying to solidify things in my own life rather than trusting God to save me and lead me.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
I am reminded again its only in the presence of God will I ever be lifted up on solid ground. THankyou for Your heart to always shepherd me into the things that matter most in life. One thing I ask and seek is to be in Your house oh Lord to meditate on your ways and be hidden in You. You are Solid ground. Amen
