Being True Inside and Out

Marsha Kochi

Scripture

Mark 12:38-40
“In His teaching He was saying: "Beware of the scribes who like to walk around in long robes, and like respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, who devour widows' houses, and for appearance's sake offer long prayers; these will receive the greater condemnation."

Observation

Jesus was telling the people to be careful of those that sound good, look right, but don't know the Word of God. The things that they should know, because of how they carried themselves, did not match up.

Application

As the widow with her coins, in private, gives all she has; we must also do. When no one is around, do I still act and do the same as when people are all around me? I think of the many heroes in my life, they all had one thing in common. They did things that came from a grateful and pure heart. Not for recognition, but because they wanted to. It wasn't forced, or to, "people please", it was truly because they wanted to please God.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for the many examples of those who serve behind the scenes, who do things because they love You. Not for recognition or accolades, but for the pure hearts that they serve with.
Help me to always serve with a grateful and pure heart. When no one is around, let me serve You with more joy!
