I’m defiled, yet dependent

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1
Observation
What promises are Paul referring to that “we have?” The command for believers to cleanse themselves hinges upon these “promises.” Paul writes in the preceding verses that God will dwell among them, walk with them, be their God, their Father. How securing, commanding the promises of God are - God will call us, sons and daughters. That communicates the strongest bond in all relationships. We are blood family with God - bought by the blood of Jesus. We are one in and with HIm. SO now what?
Application
What am i allowing to defile or corrupt my heart, spirit, my body? What is there in my life that God calls unholy? Where do I lack the fear of God in my life?

There are numerous confessions I could make - some of my sins would have people questioning my relationship with Jesus. My inconsistencies in attitude, motive - the impure and sinful thoughts and imaginations… YUK! I’m not beating myself up - but neither will I dump every sin in this journal that I recognize as sin in my life.

My call and challenge and conviction today - is to answer the holiness, fear of the Lord questions - as they specifically pertain to the way I am living… from the inside out!
Prayer
Dear Spirit of God. I love You and am so grateful for Your convicting and transforming work to perfect me… each day. Thanks for being so patient and faithful - when I am not! Help me to overcome the specific areas of sin in my life, as I trust You for ongoing love, grace, forgiveness and strength… to be more like You! I Need You mega tons!
