My Boast: “I Know God”

Carl Higashi

Scripture

Jeremiah 9:23-26

23Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

25“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “that I will punish all who are circumcised and yet uncircumcised— 26Egypt and Judah, and Edom and the sons of Ammon, and Moab and all those inhabiting the desert who clip the hair on their temples; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised of heart.”

Observation

As Jeremiah continues his wailing against the people, the Lord says this through him, the wise man will not boast of his wisdom or might, or riches, but instead boast that he knows God. Jeremiah reminds the people that God is a God of loving kindness, justice and righteousness, for this is what pleases Him.

Then Jeremiah warns of the coming days, where God will punish those who say they know Him outwardly have the appearance of knowing God, but because of their actions go against Him and His heart. Jeremiah knows, God!

Application

May my outward boasting always be about glorifying God. In addition, may my life in Christ reflect the words of my boast. May my faith, not just be an outward appearance, but from the deepest areas of my heart and clearly reflected in my obedience to Him.

My words and actions need to always be as follows:

  1. Loving, gracious, and truthful.
  2. Extending kindness to all, for all people are valuable to God eternally.
  3. Just and righteous as stated and modeled throughout the Bible.
    1. Read it daily
    2. Confess readily
    3. Repent quickly
    4. Obediently follow God’s direction for restoration of relationships
Prayer

Lord, thank you for your love, grace, and mercy on my life. Lord may my life be lived as a boast of your kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and love for us. As election season is at hand, may You rise us leaders that will not boast of themselves, but boast in You and may their lives reflect a life lived righteously and decisions made be for the true benefit of all and that when errors are made, leaders are quick to confess and correct. Love You Lord, be glorified in this my heart, life and this State!

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
