Temptation for Greed

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

1 Timothy 6:9-10 (NIV)

9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Observation

It seems to me the majority of people are gripped by the temptation for money and wealth. I’ve witnessed and even experienced what Paul says about desiring riches leading to all kinds of evil temptation, being trapped and leading to destruction. Although not an end in itself, greed is the root of all evil. It’s not bad to desire money, if while acquiring money it doesn’t take precedence over my hope in God. Money should be managed well and not be the cause of me wandering from my faith in Christ.

Application

I have to be satisfied with what I do have and invest wisely - make the most at what I have. Avoid worrying about what I don’t have and manage well what I do have. God has given us material possessions for our enjoyment not to possess us.

Prayer

Father thank you for the Word of God that shapes my character into Your image. I pray for a grateful heart, a giving heart and a heart to love, in Jesus Name. Amen.
