Better Listener

Doug Buhr

Scripture

“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27:13-14‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Observation

David was being pursued by his enemies and constantly feared for his life. He trusted that God would deliver him from his enemies. It was not just a trust that he would see the Lord in the afterlife; he trusted that he would see the goodness of the Lord on earth, “in the land of the living.” Yet he was willing to wait on the Lord for his redemption. Two times he could have ended his enemy’s life and stopped the pursuit, but each time he waited on the Lord. When the Lord took his enemy’s life David mourned for his enemy. This is what made David s man after God’s own heart.

Application

Waiting on the Lord has always been a challenge for me. When I see something I want to jump into it. I am a man of action. Lately, I have been taking time for reflection. This has been an extremely rewarding experience. I have a hectic schedule, but I have remained calm and everything has been falling into place. I feel the Lord’s hand on me during this season. Waiting on the Lord does not mean doing nothing; I still have my daily routine. Waiting on the Lord in this season means taking time out daily to sit in silence and listen.

Prayer

Lord, I am listening. I pray that your hand remain on me to guide me. Help me to be a better listener. Amen.
