YOU GO ROD. DO LIKEWISE!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27

Observation

It stands out to me more so today than before, that the “self made leader” called the lawyer is the one who answers Jesus, quoting Deuteronomy 6:5. It’s this self righteous man who “KNOWS” the law - and “KNOWS” his stuff who Jesus says in V.28 And he (Jesus) said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

To further bring a truth home...

A man, robbers, a priest, a levite and a good samaritan were key figures in the parable Jesus told the lawyer who asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life. Jesus then asked who among the priest, levite and samaritan turned out to be the “neighbor?” V.37 says - He (lawyer) said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

So the lawyer answered correctly (v28). Jesus says - Do this and you will live. Then after the parable, the lawyer again answers Jesus correctly. Jesus says YOU GO - and DO LIKEWISE. Do What? Show MERCY!

Application

Do smart, know it all “Christians” or religious people have the right answers? Another side note question is how to inherit eternal life. Jesus said Do this and You Go-Do Likewise. Faith and believing is implied, if we “love the Lord...” What gets me as well is that Luke records a right on, righteous lawyer - to illustrate a truth to his readers. Which is... Be merciful. Help people with your heart, life, resources.

  • So a practical takeaway for me...
You go first Rod...and be merciful. No matter if anyone is looking or noticing OR NOT! Do likewise... to show mercy.

Prayer

OOOOO God! My inner mind and man is going crazy. I feel so overwhelmed by the amount of needs there are in the world - let alone my city - around “my world” and even in “my circles of influence.”

Help me discern - then decide... to GO DO... to show the mercy... to the one you place in front of me. Help me to obey - to love you, my neighbor, by showing, giving and living mercy!
