The Hall of Faith

Tim Savage

Scripture

33By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions,34quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.35Women received their loved ones back again from death. Hebrews 11

Observation

Hebrews 11 is sometimes called the Hall of Faith: Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Jacob and Moses are some of the “Hall of Faithers” mentioned; people of great faith who changed their situations and, in most cases, changed the world, because they put their faith the Lord. This list of accomplishments is impressive! The mouths of lions were shut, men survived a fiery furnace, a nation escaped their enemy by walking through an ocean, kingdoms were overthrown, prison shackles unlocked and fell off and Jesus rose from the grave – this isn’t even the tip of the iceberg. We must revisit these memories to remember just a fraction of all the good that God does for us. He has provided so many miracles for me personally I can’t even remember them all, I just know that I can recall many, many times when I needed Him and He was there for me.

Application

Faith is the key to following God. God is all-powerful. God is all-knowing. Do we really believe that? If we do then faith in Him is easy. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy because I want to control things. Giving up control is hard, therefore faith is hard, but if I truly believe that God is omnipotent and omniscient then faith in Him is the only thing that makes sense. Personal experience has shown me that faith is wonderful and miraculous, it’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving us so much that protect and care for us as Your children. My only responsibility is to have faith in You. I want an unshakeable faith that never questions, never worries. I want only to rely on You because there is no one better to give control of my future.

In Jesus name,

Amen
