Scripture
Acts 23:1Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, “My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.”
Observation
When the Apostle Paul stood before the Sanhedrin to answer for his testimony, he was able to confidently state that he had discharged his duty to the Lord faithfully and in good conscience…to this day.
Application
I have regularly set goals for myself; exercise; diet; reading, even devotions. Rarely…maybe never…have I “fulfilled my duty” even to myself. As I get older I have learned that several things are key to fulfilling my goals. One is setting realistic goals. Another is good, old-fashioned discipline. When it comes to fulfilling my duty to God, I fall short every time I sin. But what I am learning is that I am doing better with age. As I come to a greater understand of what it means to die to myself; to humble myself; to devote myself to the Word; to listen to God’s voice and obey what He tells me; I am realizing that “fulfilling my duty to God” is not as difficult as I once thought. In fact, it’s much simpler than the alternative. Simply put, it’s allowing God to guide my steps and trusting that He cares for me much more than I could ever care for myself. As I trust God in greater ways and step out in faith, I am realizing that I too can stand before my accusers and say, “My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day”.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for caring for me. Thank you for guiding me. Thank you for speaking to me. Help me to trust you with more every day so I can stand up and say, I have fulfilled my duty to you!
