Know My Heart Lord

John Tilton

Scripture
1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.
Observation
Paul speaks of the nature of apostleship in the opening of the chapter that to those who are entrusted with the mysteries of God, that they are called to be faithful, whereby the truth seeded into them would bring forth a life influenced, changed and molded after His will, as he states that the Lord will ultimately be the judge. He makes not that there will be judgment when the Lord comes and that what has been hidden will be revealed. It is at that time that our lives and we will be counted before the Lord.
Application
I know that my desire is to be the person God has called me to be, yet I am a sinner that has struggles, and that although I desire to be faithful and ready for judgment at any time, I know that my life is not spotless. Where then and how does God measure our faithfulness knowing that His will is for us to be obedient, yet we all fall short; and therefore where and how will our struggles be addressed and counted by the Lord when He exposes what is held so close and within. The key that I hold on to is that He will “expose the motives of the heart.” For although I am a sinner, I stand on His word that He knows my heart and the motives of my heart; that although I sin, that He knows my desire to be obedient to His will by way of His word.
Prayer
Dear Lord, I often toil with how my sin separates me from you and your will, thus feeling unworthy and hypocritical at times. Yet, I claim your grace and mercy on my life that you know my heart and although I am a sinner and continue to struggle with strongholds in my life, your knowing my heart and desire to be the person you’ve called me to be, in spite of my flesh and falls.
