VERSE 1 FIRST! BEFORE THE CHARGE

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

[1] In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: [2] Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4:1-2

Observation

What potent, intense, forceful words. This passage calling Timothy to really, seriously, deeply consider GOD...who He is in Authority, Judgement, Power, considering Jesus appearing and HIS KINGDOM...!

If we would unpack the depth of what it means to really consider what it means to be included in, live on behalf of, representing the King and HIS KINGDOM - then the call to actually preach the Word would be taken more seriously....right?!

Application

I sometimes, many times, feel so insignificant, insecure - because I’m probably thinking more about “how I will do” than WHO I’M REPRESENTING! I totally and definitely want to think more, consider more... the reality of WHO and WHAT I“M REPRESENTING - as I consider preaching the Word.

I’m challenged and convicted today by zero’ing in on Verse 1 - before (or while) I desire and prepare for fulfilling Verse 2.

Prayer

Lord - Help me to know You, more and more - focusing on ”me“ less and less. Thank You for Your great love and drawing my heart to be stirred by these Scriptures. I know that You will help me. The work You are doing on and in my heart feels good. Hard, but good. Cutting, convicting, challenging but soothing and life giving! I Love You - more than anything, anyone!
