Who am I

Tim Savage

Scripture
16Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17And now, O God, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! You speak as though I were someone very great, O Lord God! 1 Chronicles 17
Observation
Sometimes I feel like David. Who am I, Lord, that you bless me with a great family, bountiful provision and wonderful and exciting ministry opportunities? Who am I? I am nothing relative to You. Who am I that I should lead Your people and steward Your resources? Who am I? I am no one. Hearing David’s humble, almost desperate, prayer makes me think about who I am and who we are that we get to serve Him, or even more, receive His blessings.
Application
I am a sinner who daily needs His mercy and forgiveness. I am not worthy of the opportunities and blessings that He pours out on my family and me. I can do nothing, except to live my life, ever-striving to improve and please Him. I can be more self-disciplined. I can fight harder to resist temptation. I can lead a more holy and pure life. I can be a better husband, father and leader for the sake of His kingdom. Not to purchase my salvation or earn His love because those things cannot be bought, but out of gratitude, fear and respect for my Creator who first loved me, even though I didn’t deserve it.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, Who am I that You love me in my imperfection? Thank You for blessing me, thank You for providing and thank You for Your grace and forgiveness. I am not deserving, yet You love me anyway. I can only give my thanks. Please strengthen me to live the life that You would have for me. In Jesus name, Amen
