The Promises Of God

Richard Waialeale

Scripture

2 Peter 1:3 God’s divine power has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness. 4 In this way he has given us the very great and precious gifts he promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature.

Observation

When we turn our faith to prayer to God, especially in the dark times of our life. The Bible says that “Grace and Peace be ours through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord (vv. 2)” With that, God gives to us His Promise of His Presence and the Promise of His Protection and the Promise of His Power.

I remember reading about a story about the 1989 Armenian earthquake needed only four minutes to flatten the nation and kill thirty thousand people. Moments after that deadly tremor ceased, story Is told of a father who raced to an elementary school to save his son. When he arrived, he saw that the building had been leveled. Looking at the mass of stones and rubble, he remembered a promise he had made to his child:
“No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you.”

Driven by his own promise, he found the area closest to his son’s room and began to pull back the rocks. Other parents arrived and began sobbing for their children. “It’s too late,” they told the man. “You know they are dead. You can’t help.” Even a police officer encouraged him to give up.

But the father refused. For eight hours, then sixteen, then thirty-two, thirty-six hours he dug. His hands were raw and his energy gone, but he refused to quit.

Finally, after thirty-eight wrenching hours, he pulled back a boulder and heard his son’s voice. He called his boy’s name, “Arman! Arman!” And a voice answered him, “Dad, it’s me!” Then the boy added these priceless words, “I told the other kids not to worry. I told them if you were alive, you’d save me, and when you saved me, they’d be saved, too. Because you promised, ‘No matter what, I’ll always be there for you.’””

Application

Here’s the point and my application.

With God’s Promises comes the promise of His Presence + the promise of His Protection + the promise of His Power = equals this:
“No Matter What, Lord, You said You’ll Always Will Be There For Me.”
He is with us and will never forsake us.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for Your promises that keeps my head up knowing that Your presence is with me, and You will protect me, and give me power to keep moving forward in You. I pray Lord for the confidence and courage to face this world and shine the light of Jesus. Amen.
