Authorities - Government officials

Richard Waialeale

Scripture
Acts 25:10-11 (NIV) 10 Paul answered: "I am now standing before Caesar's court, where I ought to be tried. I have not done any wrong to the Jews, as you yourself know very well. 11 If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!"
Observation
The charges brought against Paul were civil (they said he had done wrong to the Jews); therefore the present court where Festus represented Caesar, was the proper one. Paul understood the Biblical principle that God established those in authority. But ultimately, it is God who judges. This was at the time the highest court in the land, and where Paul wanted to stand court.
Application
There are times I don’t exactly feel that those in authority know what they are doing but God has them there for a reason and my obedience to God is to show respect to those in a place of authority. Fighting against something that God establishes is as bad as fighting against God. I might not agree with people’s leadership but I must respect their position. Show that respect in obedience to God.
Prayer
Lord I pray for the leadership of this nation. May I be a support of what You are doing in this land, and may my focus be on You. Amen.
