In The Spotlight

John Tilton

Scripture
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Observation
The author believed to be Matthew reminds us that we are indeed the light of Jesus to those we encounter in all facets of life. As a town built on a hill is very obvious, so to are we when people know we are followers of Jesus Christ. If one is walking in obedience with the Lord, the light of the Lord cannot be hidden. The scriptures implore followers of Jesus Christ to let our example shine forth as it testifies to and glorifies our Father in heaven.
Application
I am the type that often must be reminded for my benefit of how God’s word relates to and speaks into my life. I know that more is caught then taught, as I am reminded constantly as I encounter people who know me through my ministry, in public, away from the ministry environment. You never know who is watching you. Thus, it is best to let our good deeds and the heart of Christ shine through us. I know that when I profess to be a follower, believer and minister of Christ, people watch even closer. It is so important to know that I can ruin and adversely affect one’s potential relationship with Jesus Christ by my example, or lack their of. When God calls us to the spotlight of life for His purposes, it is a honored responsibility that the spotlight reveal a heart of Christ that serves and example Him in earnest.
Prayer
Dear Lord, may my light so shine, being led by the Holy Spirit to be used as vessel, instrument and example of your will and spirit in me, so that others will desire to know you as I do.
