A Much Needed Getaway

Craig Peterson

Scripture
Mark 9: 2,3 2Six days later, Jesus *took with Him Peter and [a]James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; 3and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Observation
Peter, James and John had spent countless hours with Jesus. They lived with Jesus. They were taught by Jesus. They saw Jesus minister to people and perform many miracles. But it was not until they went away with Jesus, up high on a mountain, by themselves that they were able to who Jesus really was. It was there, up high on a mountain, by themselves that they experienced the radiance and purity of the Son of God…greater than anything man could imagine.
Application
I walk with Jesus every day. I begin my day in the Word and doing my devotions. I pray and seek Jesus. I am constantly asking what Jesus would do and seeking His guidance and His will. I see the lives of people who have been changed by the grace, mercy, healing and His gift of salvation every day. But it’s when I get away with Jesus that I experience Him in his glory. It’s when I go away with Jesus, up high on a mountain; alone on a hike; just He and I on the beach or out kayaking; that’s when Jesus shows Himself to me in amazing ways. When I take the time to get away, alone with Jesus, He’s never too busy. He is never in a hurry. He is always available and He always shows up in all His glory. He speaks the words I need to hear. He encourages me. He challenges me. He gives me new and creative ideas. He comforts me. He helps me to know Him and understand Him better. He refreshes me. He heals me and restores me. He refocuses me. He clarifies life for me. He grows my heart for what is most important to Him…seeking and saving the lost.
Prayer
Jesus, I realize that I don’t get away with you often enough. I don’t get away, just you and me, frequently enough. Today I commit to get away with you and I anticipate a fantastic time with you. Today I commit to schedule time to get away with you every week and write it in my calendar. I commit to keep my appointment with you as I keep my appointments with others. Lord, I can’t wait to be with you and experience you in your glory.
