Discouragement

Marsha Kochi

Scripture

Ezra 4: 4Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build 5and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Observation

Zerubbabel and Jeshua would not allow the enemies of Judah and Benjamin to help them build the wall. They were worshipers of other gods. So the enemies became hostile and the people of Judah became fearful and were discouraged. They also got counselors that gave them bad advice and deceived them.

Application

Discouragement, when you are set to do what you are called to do comes very easily when listening to the wrong voice. Many times my discouragement leads me to feel worthless, and I may doubt my call. I start to fear doing anything, and I become a victim to the lies that I start to believe. I must get back quickly to hearing The Lord, to allow His Voice to bring me back to where I am confident in who I am in Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me of how important it is to stay close to You, and how easily I can get distracted, when I least expect it. Help me to focus on Your Voice, and not on the voice of discouragement.
