Father and Pastor to my Sons

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. [24]And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces. Leviticus 9:23-24

Observation

Immediately recorded in Lev. 10 is the execution of Aaron’s sons for offering strange fire. The Lord took their lives - quite a severe consequence for violating God’s instructions relating to offerings.

So here in 9:23-24, previous to the death of Aaron’s 2 sons, Aaron experiences the holy, powerful presence of God. He and Moses came out from meeting with God and blessed the people. The glory of the Lord appeared to everyone present. The presence of the Lord resulted in the people radically praising and worshiping God!

Application

As a pastor and father of 2 sons, I can’t imagine the feelings and experience Aaron had. Being in and visibly experiencing the presence of God, He loses his sons because of their disobedience. I guess for me, I’m convicted in the area of my fathering responsibilities. I can be so in line with God, experiencing the presence of God, witnessing miracle sod people being touched by His presence ---- YET LOSE MY SONS. This is NOT the specific context of Aaron and his sons, but the life application for me is: Rod... are you aware of your sons relationship with Me - saith the Lord?

I believe I can father, disciple my sons towards the will and ways of God. They are totally of age to make their won choices. To choose or reject the Lord. But today...may I keep on praying intently, living purposefully as a father and spending the time I can to love and build our relationships.

Prayer

Dear Father God!
Please help me to shepherd my sons. In speech, life, witnessing Your love. I fall so short in the way I act and react at home. I need You - Your help to be a father of integrity. Help me - Help us to build relationships that honor You!
