Go For It!

John Tilton

Scripture

Romans 8:14-15

For those who are led by the Spirit of Godare the children of God.15The Spirityou received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a]And by him we cry,“Abba,Father.”

Observation

In receiving Jesus Christ, we also have the gift of being led by the Holy Spirit if we invite and ask the Holy Spirit in to lead, guide, prompt and encourage us; affirming that we are the children of God. Furthermore, in receiving and being led by the Holy Spirit, we need not live our lives as slaves enslaved by the things of the world or the temptations and bondage of the enemy; nor the fears brought on by the world or the enemy. More so, in victory through Jesus Christ and being led by the Holy Spirit, we can live our lives in a sonship, or children of God enabling ourselves to call out when in need or to call upon our Abba Father, the Lord.

Application

I recently had the honor to preside over my older brother’s funeral service and burial. As the baby of the family, sometimes, the baby of the family is always seen as the baby of the family that the older siblings still look at as the baby of the family, being judged with not much to share that the older siblings already think they know. However, the Holy Spirit prompted me last year to share Christ with my brother. Although he didn’t receive Christ at that time, it planted seeds resulting in my brother receiving Christ this past February. Subsequently, he was discovered to have cancer in March, spent time in April in the hospital and passed away in early May; BUT, he is with Christ, having received Christ as his Savior. Thankfully, I listened to the Holy Sprit and went for it in sharing Christ with Henry when prompted. At Henry’s funeral service, I wasn’t asked to share a message of Christ, but when prompted by the Spirit, I went for it. At the burial, I fel the Spirit to challenge the whole family in understanding and receiving Christ as their Savior … half of the family received Jesus, and I had everyone pray the salvation prayer. When God prompts you, GO FOR IT!

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for your prompting. I continue to invite you in to lead, guide, prompt and encourage me in that still small voice and often an inkling. Come Holy Spirit dwell in me and may you be welcome in my life. May I be sensitive to you the Spirit and live my life to cause you to dwell within me.
