NO OBLIGATION. NO STRINGS ATTACHED

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. Hebrews 9:1

Observation

Ch.8 v.13 gives a little context to the thought that between the 2 covenants, the 2nd covenant releases us from bondage and regulations. “In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.”

The writers emphasis is on Jesus, who fulfills the new covenant through His life, death. The first or old covenant includes the function of earthly priests, distinct from the heavenly covenant of Jesus, the Greater High Priest. The eternal covenant brings us into a “no obligation” relationship through the obedient sacrifice of Jesus.

Application

No Obligation. To think that there are NO STRINGS attached, NO OBLIGATION to be, live and continue to walk in freedom with God!!! There’s no stipulations, regulations to work for my forgiveness, peace or freedom. The American way is to return the favor, pay back. There’s a sense of obligation, duty or responsibility that Christians take upon themselves, to attempt to pay God back - for ALL He’s done!

So relax Rod - no pressure to perform, to earn respect, trust, favor. Maybe the issue is a question - WHO YOU TRYING TO PLEASE? Stop living by “man’s rules or expectations!”

Prayer

Whew! Wow God! You are so generous and kind - so faithful and loving - to guide me! Thank you for continuing to release me from myself - the bondage of performance, of trying to gain earthly applause, success, pleasures. You are soooo good!
