Go Make Disciples!!!

Carl Higashi

Scripture

Matthew 28:16-20

16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Observation

Jesus clearly states His authority and leadership. He tests the authority He has over the eleven disciples, as He knew some of them doubted. They acted as if the believed in their worship of Him, but now comes the challenge of the Great Commission.

He tells the disciples because He has this authority from God the Father. He reminds them of their primary purpose, to “make disciples”. The disciples were to multiply themselves and live their lives publically for the glory of God. Expressing their acceptance of Him as Lord and savior in their daily lives assuring His presence with them as they go. These disciples would all believe in the Holy Trinity, the triune Godhead, Father, Son and Spirit. They would speak and teach future disciples to observe God’s commandments, live out their faith, assuring them a future and a hope in Jesus Christ.

The result, they all do as He commissioned them. They all gave their lives for the sake of the Gospel to spread to ALL nations.

Application

As my friend Dan came into Starbuck Koko Marina this morning he said an encouraging word…MULTIPLYING!

I am called along with these brothers to this same Great Commission as Jesus charged these eleven! Jesus is calling other men and women of God to do the same. Allowing others who are called to rise up that the community of Hawaii Kai be evangelized and the gospel be spread beyond Hawaii Kai.

There is much work to do, but the Lord also reminds me to keep the Sabbath day holy. But even more than that, to keep good healthy boundaries where even greater life and discipleship can happen and where the Holy Spirit is totally guiding me in all that I do.

Prayer

Lord thank you for the wonderful work your Holy Spirit is doing in our church at NH. People are growing in depth and knowledge of you. I pray for an ever-increasing unity amongst your people at NHHK. May all we are give praise, honor, and glory to you.

Please watch over the Japan Mission team as we are in the final preparations for the mission. May this mission be a small part of your Great Commission to reach the lost and make disciples in Japan and other nations.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
