Honor the God of Good News

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

3 The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, 4 and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name. Romans 1 NLT

Observation

It was difficult for me to get past the opening passage in my reading through Romans. I think the crux of the Gospel Message, while woven throughout Paul's dissertation in this letter, is pinpointed in these opening verses.

The Good News is about Jesus!

God brought Jesus through descendants. The earthly line of David.
He was shown, even proven to be God's Son when He was raised from the dead! By the power off the Holy Spirit!
HE IS JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD!
Now through Christ, like Paul, we have the honor and authority to preach this Gospel in word and deed to ALL...starting with the person God places in front of us!

Who are the Gentiles? Everyone not a Jew, was a Gentile. Jewishly, still holds true today. Yet Gentiles in our culture could represent, everyone not in Christ.

Application

I'm so drawn to honor God - and am blessed to be able to call Him...my God! So personal, so gracious, so merciful! I want to recognize the Glory of God! While the Good News is FOR US - the Good News is FIRST ABOUT JESUS. The pull in the human soul to make life, religion, spirituality about ME (about US), is very real, very present.

So before I "tell or share" he Good News, I want to Glorify Jesus, the God of Good News!

I guess one of my sensitivities is how much I've seen, experienced about myself and other Christians - where we make life, even our Christianity, more about US than about God. The very sneaky, subtle deception lures my thoughts and soul to be Rod centered not God centered.

So as I recognize my tendency to sin in this area, I desire to be a pure, God centered worshiper AND a Good News bearer and share'er!

I want to this Powerful love and news of Jesus with the "gentiles" around me - in everyday life. SO this must mean loving the person God places in front of me, taking opportunity to live, love and listen to each soul. Then sharing the Good News with them!

Prayer

Ok Lord. A huge lesson - simple, profound reminder...but HELP ME TO LIVE THIS WORD OUT. I feel like such a hypocrite - double minded man. I write one thing and can easily live another. O God! You are My Good News!
