For MY Purpose!

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. Romans 9

Observation

The works of man and the Law contrasted with the grace of God and faith, are clear distinctions in Paul's letter. God's sovereign choice, choosing to decide as He wills is made clear in this passage and context. Is it enough for people to hear that "God is sovereign and in control" in order to relegate "our choice" in matters? The point of the passage exalts God's control above human choice - the purpose of God above man's plans. V17 - the Authority of the Scripture validates the purpose and power of God.

Application

My life application is simple. Trust God as I live daily life - and whatever happens, happens...as long as I am not choosing to willfully sin or violate God. I'm not in control - God is. And I that God of His great mercy and choice to choose me... as a son and servant in His Kingdom!

It's sad that I want to glorify MY Position and Power. God wants me to honor and exalt His Power = Proclaiming His truth. I need to be careful of my Performance oriented Gospel presentation. Lord - help me to proclaim Your truth! I desire to live according to His Purposes - not my own!

Prayer

Dear Daddie Father! You are my sovereign and purposeful God! Thank you for hearing my prayers and entrusting me to serve You! Please help me to be a Spiritual Leader who Proclaims Your truth - and not just "Perform" Your Ways.
