Consequences of sin

Richard Waialeale

Scripture
1 Chronicles 21:14 (NIV) 14 So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.
1 Chronicles 21:17 (NIV)17 David said to God, "Was it not I who ordered the fighting men to be counted? I am the one who has sinned and done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? O Lord my God, let your hand fall upon me and my family, but do not let this plague remain on your people."
Observation
Interesting to see that we have the ability to make our own choices, decisions - yet because of David’s bad decision, leading him to sin, he will also have to suffer the consequences of his sin. Here’s one thing we cannot control, is the extent of the consequences of our sin. Just as we share in God blessings we also suffer the actions of those that lead us, those around us, if not ourselves. Either one, we have no control of. That is why, when I agree with the vision of our leader, that also means I dive in head on with whatever opportunity, not problems, but whatever opportunity that comes our way.
Application
In verse 18, God speaks to David through the prophet Gad to build an altar and draw closer to Him. That’s the opportunity that David has at this point and that’s what I too can also gain from this. And that is to draw closer to Jesus - to strengthen my relationship that I may not understand it all, but I still have Jesus. If anything, I need to know that I still have the relationship with Christ. Always remember whenever walking through the fire, don’t look at what I’m walking through, look at who I’m walking with.
Prayer
Lord I walk with You. Help me to see what You see and to think how You think and to love how You love, in this season of change. Amen.
