Been surfing lately Rod?
Friday, June 15th, 2007I can give you all the reasons why I haven’t posted anything the past 2 weeks. Oh…there are so many lessons and experiences the past 2 weeks I want to write about. Those of you who read this blog who live out of town or attend another church on island must know that there are some exciting moves within our church, leadership, structure that we trust and believe will strengthen the body of Christ at New Hope and extend hope to the world of people who need Jesus.
I am reminded by the Lord, as a leader, to be a forward thinker, not being so wrapped up in the day to day privilege of serving and leading at New Hope. With our recent weekend gatherings at the Stan Sherrif Arena and all the wonderful ministry in between, the Lord spoke to me through Pastor Wayne when he shared this surf illustration.
“Like surfing, there is a huge difference between being towards the back of the wave and paddling rigorously to catch it and being positioned towards the front of the wave. You expend a LOT more energy paddling to catch the wave when you are “BEHIND” the wave.”
My take home: I need to make sure I am positioning myself a leader, to be at the right place at the right time. To watch the tide of people’s hearts; training, inspiring, leading and equipping leaders to understand the conditions of life and ministry so they can effectively catch and ride the waves of God’s call for fruitful, effective ministry. So first Rod, make sure you know how to read, understand and position your leadership and those you are equipping, to understand the vision and goals of the Equipping Ministry.
