Honor Thy Parents

Tim Savage

16Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him.17The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.Ruth 4

Ruth was an honorable woman. She honored Naomi after the death of the their husbands by staying with her and caring for her. Ruth had a better chance at a good life by leaving Naomi, returning home and finding a new husband, but instead she decided to care for her mother-in-law in her home country. Her selflessness was rewarded by marrying Boaz and giving birth to their son Obed.Obed was the father of Jesse and Jesse, the father of David.Ruth was an unlikely person to be in the family lineage of King David and Jesus, but God gave her favor because of the honorable way she lived.

I now have the opportunity to honor my parents and in-laws by caring for them in their senior years.Planning for their finances, taking them to their doctors’ appointments, shopping and long term care takes time and effort.I have to slow down, walk slower, be patient, explain things several times, speak louder and think ahead for the future. It’s not easy to see them grow older, but I want to honor them in their golden years.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Grant me wisdom and strength to care for my family well.May my attitude be positive and joyful and the burden light.

In Jesus name,
